Automod acts on rule-breaking messages the instant they appear, without waiting for a moderator to notice. Each rule runs its own check, applies its own action, and — for anything beyond a plain delete — creates a numbered case in the moderation log, the same as one a moderator handed out manually.

Set Up Automod

Go to Dashboard → Automod and switch on the rules you want. Each rule has its own response and its own thresholds. Alternatively, use /automod rule to enable individual rules from Discord and /automod status to review what’s running. Set your exemptions before you enable any rules. Anyone who can Manage Messages is skipped by default. You can add extra roles and channels on top of that through the dashboard or via the commands below.

The Nine Rules

Account Age Gate

The account age gate is separate from the nine rules and acts before anyone has said a word. Turn away accounts newer than a set number of days with /automod minage. A kick sends a DM telling the member the minimum account age, so a real person who joined early can come back once their account is old enough. A ban sends nothing. Members turned away by this gate are not counted as joins — raid accounts don’t pollute your retention figures.

Five Responses

  1. Delete the message
  2. Delete + warn
  3. Delete + timeout
  4. Delete + kick
  5. Delete + ban

Auto-Limits

Kicking and banning can’t be undone with a click, so automod caps both at 5 per hour by default (configurable). Once the cap is reached, further actions become timeouts instead, and the case records why. This prevents a single bad banned-word entry from emptying your server before anyone notices. Raise the limit if you’d rather it never cuts in.

Fallback Behavior

If the bot lacks the permission for the configured action, it falls back rather than giving up. A ban it can’t place becomes a timeout; a timeout it can’t place is still recorded as a warning. The case always records what actually happened, not just what was requested.

Other Notes

  • Only one rule acts per message — a message that trips three rules is dealt with once.
  • Members the bot couldn’t moderate manually, including the server owner and anyone above it in the role list, are always skipped. Trying to act against them would silently half-work: the message would go but the punishment would fail.
  • Every action beyond a plain delete creates a numbered case, so /case list shows the full picture.
