Set it up

1

Turn it on

On the dashboard, pick your server and open Levels. Tick Turn on levels. Untick Members earn XP in voice channels too if only chat should count.
2

Pick the level-up message

Choose where it goes: the channel they were chatting in, one channel you pick, a direct message, or nowhere. Write your own with {user} (a ping), {name}, {level} and {server}, up to 500 characters. Leave it empty to use the default: GG {user}, you reached **level {level}**!
3

Add role rewards

Fill in a level and a role, and press Add reward for more. Keep earlier rewards lets members keep every reward they earned. Untick it to keep only the highest.
4

Save

Press Save. Newt picks it up within about 10 seconds.
Newt’s role must sit above every reward role, and Newt needs Manage Roles. Otherwise it can’t give the roles.

How members earn XP

  • Chatting: 15 to 25 XP for a message, once a minute. More messages in that minute earn nothing.
  • Voice: 10 XP a minute while someone else is in the channel, up to 12 hours a session. Nothing while muted, deafened or in the AFK channel.
  • XP speed: everyone earns at 0.5×, 1×, 1.5×, 2× or 3× (1× by default). Members with a bonus role, like boosters, earn an extra 1.25×, 1.5×, 2× or 3× (1.5× by default).
  • No XP: channels and roles that never earn. A thread counts as its channel.
Level 1 needs 100 XP in all, level 10 needs 4,675 and level 50 needs 268,375. Each level takes a little more than the last.

See your rank

Shows a card with the level, the rank in this server and a bar to the next level. Leave out member to see your own.
Everyone with XP, 10 to a page. The dashboard’s Levels tab shows the top 100.
Mint, Ocean, Sunset, Violet or Gold. Mint is the default.

Change someone’s XP

Up to 10,000,000 at a time.
Up to 10,000,000 at a time. XP never goes below zero.
Any number from 0 to 1,000,000,000.
Back to zero.
Reward roles follow straight away. The member gains or loses them to match their new level.

Move from MEE6

Press Import from MEE6 on the Levels tab. Newt copies the XP of up to 20,000 members from your server’s MEE6 leaderboard, which must be public. Nobody loses XP: whoever is already ahead in Newt keeps their number. Newt uses MEE6’s level curve, so everyone lands on the same level. You can import once every 10 minutes.

Good to know

  • XP and levels are per server.
  • No Premium needed. Role rewards, XP speed and rank card colours are free for every server.
  • The level-up message only ever pings the member who levelled up.
  • Members who leave and come back get the reward roles their level earned.
  • Up to 50 rewards, at levels 1 to 1000. Roles with dangerous permissions, roles above Newt and bot-managed roles can’t be rewards.
  • Reset everyone’s XP, at the bottom of the Levels tab, wipes every member’s XP. Tick the box first. It can’t be undone.
Permission: /rank, /rankcard and /leaderboard are for everyone. /xp needs Manage Server.
