# Quick Start Guide: Add Newt to Your Discord Server

> Add Newt to your Discord server and configure your first feature in under five minutes. Use the dashboard or slash commands to get started.

Getting Newt running takes a few minutes. Add the bot, open the dashboard, switch on the features you want, and verify everything is working. Nothing in Newt is on by default — you build exactly the setup your server needs, and you can change it at any time.

    Open the [authorization link](https://discord.com/oauth2/authorize?client_id=560064328028389386\&scope=bot+applications.commands\&permissions=10170482556662\&response_type=code\&redirect_uri=https%3A%2F%2Fnewt.bot%2Fadded) and select the server you want to add Newt to. You need the **Manage Server** permission on that server — if you don't see it in the dropdown, you're not an admin there.

    Accept all of the permissions Discord asks for. These cover what logging, moderation, and role management need to function. Declining them doesn't prevent the install, but the affected features won't work until the permissions are granted.

  <Step title="Open the dashboard">
    Go to [newt.bot](https://newt.bot) and click **Log in with Discord**. After authenticating, pick your server from the list. Each feature has its own tab in the left-hand navigation — Welcome, Autorole, Automod, Tickets, Giveaways, and so on.

    The dashboard is the fastest way to configure most features. Things like welcome card design, role button panels, ticket panels, and automod rules all have visual editors that would take far more commands to replicate.

  <Step title="Turn on what you want">
    Nothing runs until you switch it on. Features are fully independent, so enabling welcome messages has no effect on moderation, and turning on automod doesn't touch your role panels.

    For each feature you want:

    * **On the dashboard** — find the tab, toggle the feature on, fill in the settings, and save.
    * **With slash commands** — run the setup command listed in that feature's documentation (for example, `/welcome set`, `/logging setup`, or `/autorole add`).

    Start with one or two features rather than everything at once. It's easier to verify each one is working before moving to the next.

  <Step title="Check it worked">
    Most features have a status command that reports what is configured and whether the bot has the permissions it needs in the channels you pointed it at. Run the relevant status command first whenever something isn't behaving as expected:

    These commands tell you what's configured, what's switched on, and what permissions are missing — so you get a clear answer rather than having to guess.

<Note>
  If a command is missing from Discord's slash command picker after adding the bot, **fully close and reopen Discord**. The desktop and mobile clients cache the command list locally and don't always refresh it automatically. A full restart clears the cache and shows the current list.

## What to set up first

Not sure where to start? These are the most commonly configured features for a new server:
