# Server log

> A record of what happens in your server, in one channel or many.

One command builds a hidden **Server Logs** category, makes the channels and switches every log on. Running it again reuses the same channels.

**Styles:** a few channels grouped by type (the default), one channel for everything, or one channel per event.

Sends every event to one channel and switches them all on.

Leave out `channel` to switch logging off.

Leave out `channel` on any of them to switch that log off.

Deleted messages, edited messages, bulk deletions, joins, leaves, bans, unbans, nickname changes, member roles, voice channels, channels added, removed or renamed, roles created, deleted or renamed, and server settings.

## <Icon icon="gauge" size={24} /> On the dashboard

The **Logs** tab has everything above, plus:

* **Channels the log ignores:** nothing in a ticked channel is logged. Threads follow their channel.
* **Weekly summary** ([Premium](/help/premium)): a post every Monday around midday UTC with the week's joins, leaves, automod actions and rating.

## <Icon icon="circle-info" size={24} /> Good to know

* A ban made with `/ban` shows once, as a case. A ban made in Discord shows in the server log.
* Edits are logged only when the text changed.
* The voice log skips bots, mutes, deafens, streams and cameras.
* Permission changes on channels and roles are not logged.
* Newt needs **View Audit Log** to show who deleted a message or placed a ban. People deleting their own messages always show as unknown.
* Deleted media covers images, video and audio up to 8 MB. Newt holds each file for up to 12 hours, and not across a restart. After that the log still says who deleted what, without the file.
* Log channels are never logged themselves.
