# Cases

> Every moderation action gets a number you can look up later.

Bans, kicks, timeouts, warnings, notes, image bans, freezes, purges and locks all become numbered cases. So do automod actions, except a plain delete.

## <Icon icon="list" size={24} /> Browse cases

Ten per page, newest first. Filter by type, by member, or by the mod who acted.

<CodeGroup>
  ```plaintext Syntax theme={null}
  /case list [kind] [user] [mod]
  ```

  ```plaintext Example theme={null}
  /case list kind:Bans mod:@SeniorMod
  ```
</CodeGroup>

<Tip>
  Filtering by `mod` also shows bans, kicks and timeouts they made in the last 30 days through Discord or another bot.
</Tip>

## <Icon icon="magnifying-glass" size={24} /> Open or edit a case

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Open a case" icon="folder-open">
    Who, what, when, why, how long, and whether it was edited or removed.

    ```plaintext theme={null}
    /case view <case_id>
    ```
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Change the reason" icon="pen">
    The case keeps who edited it and when.

    ```plaintext theme={null}
    /case reason <case_id> <reason>
    ```
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

## <Icon icon="gauge" size={24} /> On the dashboard

The **Mod cases** tab shows every case in the server on one page. [Premium](/help/premium) servers can download them as CSV from the **Insights** tab.

## <Icon icon="bullhorn" size={24} /> Post cases to a channel

```plaintext theme={null}
/logging moderation channel:#mod-log
```

Leave out `channel` to stop posting. Cases are still recorded.

**Permission:** `/case` commands need an allowed role on the [Permissions](/permissions#give-your-mods-access) tab. `/logging moderation` needs Manage Server.
