# Autorole
> Give roles to new members, and give roles back when people rejoin.
## Add a role
Run it once per role. Or tick the roles on the dashboard's **Roles** tab.

Newt's role must sit above every role it gives out. Drag it up in **Server Settings → Roles**.
## Manage autorole

/autorole remove
```
Shows each role, with a warning next to any Newt can't give.

/autorole list

Your list is kept while it's off.

## Bot autorole
A separate list for bots, on the dashboard's **Roles** tab. A new bot gets these roles as soon as it joins, and never gets the member list.
## Sticky roles
Switch on **Give people their roles back when they rejoin** on the **Roles** tab. Newt remembers someone's roles when they leave and gives them back if they return. Staff roles and roles with dangerous permissions are never given back.
## Good to know
* With a rules screen, roles arrive after the member accepts the rules.
* Up to 10 roles, or 25 with [Premium](/help/premium).
* A deleted role drops off the list by itself.
