# Invite tracking

> See who invited who, with a leaderboard, bonus invites and names for your invite links.

## <Icon icon="gear" size={24} /> Set it up

There's nothing to switch on. Newt traces every join to the invite it came through, as long as it has **Manage Server** (to read your invites) and **Manage Channels** (to hear about new ones). Newt's invite link asks for both.

## <Icon icon="calculator" size={24} /> How invites are counted

Every join through somebody's invite counts once. Then:

| Count | When |
| - | - |
| Regular | Somebody joined through their invite |
| Left | That person has left since |
| Fake | The account was under 3 days old, they used their own invite, or it's a rejoin and rejoins don't count |
| Bonus | An admin added or took away invites by hand |

**Total = regular - left - fake + bonus.** A fake that leaves is only taken off once.

Rejoins count by default: somebody coming back counts again for whoever invited them this time.

Change the fake threshold (0 to 365 days, 0 turns it off) and whether rejoins count on the dashboard's **Invites** tab. Both apply to every join already recorded.

## <Icon icon="user" size={24} /> See somebody's invites

<CodeGroup>
  ```plaintext Syntax theme={null}
  /invites show [member]
  ```

  ```plaintext Example theme={null}
  /invites show member:@Alex
  ```
</CodeGroup>

Shows their total and breakdown, how they joined and who invited them, the last six months, and the people they brought in most recently. Leave out `member` to see your own.

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Everybody someone invited" icon="list">
    Ten to a page, each marked still here, left, fake (and why) or not counted.

    ```plaintext theme={null}
    /invites list [member]
    ```
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The leaderboard" icon="trophy">
    All time, or the last 30 days, 7 days or 24 hours. A window counts the people who joined in it. Bonus invites only count toward all time.

    ```plaintext theme={null}
    /invites leaderboard [period] [page]
    ```
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Your invite links" icon="link">
    Your links that still work, how often each was used, and their names.

    ```plaintext theme={null}
    /invites codes
    ```
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

## <Icon icon="sliders" size={24} /> Change someone's invites

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Give bonus invites" icon="plus">
    Up to 10,000 at a time. Handy when moving over from another bot.

    ```plaintext theme={null}
    /invites bonus add <member> <amount> [reason]
    ```
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Take bonus invites away" icon="minus">
    Up to 10,000 at a time. A total can go below zero this way.

    ```plaintext theme={null}
    /invites bonus remove <member> <amount> [reason]
    ```
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Reset invites" icon="rotate-left">
    Start one member, or everybody, from zero. Leave out `member` to reset everybody, after a confirm button. Bonus invites go too. Nothing is deleted, so rejoins are still spotted.

    ```plaintext theme={null}
    /invites reset [member]
    ```
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

## <Icon icon="tag" size={24} /> Name your invite links

Give an invite a name, like **Twitter** or **Partners**, to see where people come from. Add a role and everybody who joins through that link gets it.

<CodeGroup>
  ```plaintext Syntax theme={null}
  /invites label set <code> <name> [role]
  ```

  ```plaintext Example theme={null}
  /invites label set code:discord.gg/abc123 name:Twitter
  ```
</CodeGroup>

Remove a name with `/invites label remove <code>`. Name the vanity link with its code or `vanity`. Up to 10 names, or 50 with [Premium](/help/premium).

<Warning>
  Newt's role must sit above the role a link gives. Newt never gives roles with dangerous permissions or Newt moderator powers.
</Warning>

## <Icon icon="gauge" size={24} /> On the dashboard

The **Invites** tab, under **Insights** on the [dashboard](https://newt.bot/servers), has:

* The leaderboard's top 100, for all time, 30 days, 7 days or 24 hours.
* **Top invite codes**: joins, how many stayed a week and the fake rate for each invite. Invites with the same name share a row. Fake joins don't count toward staying.
* **Counting rules**: the fake threshold and whether rejoins count.
* **Invite link names**, the same as `/invites label set`.
* The **invite blacklist**: members and roles that earn no invites. It's checked when somebody joins, so it only affects joins from then on.
* **Hidden from the leaderboard**: members who keep earning invites but aren't shown.
* **Reset everyone's invites**, behind a tick box.

Up to 25 blacklisted members, 25 blacklisted roles and 25 hidden members, or 100 each with [Premium](/help/premium).

## <Icon icon="message" size={24} /> In welcomes and the log

Put `{inviter}`, `{inviter_name}`, `{invites}`, `{invite_code}` or `{invite_label}` in your [welcome and goodbye messages](/members/welcome-goodbye#placeholders). The [server log](/moderation/logging#events) shows the invite and who made it on every join and leave.

## <Icon icon="circle-info" size={24} /> Good to know

* Joins Newt can't trace count for nobody: Discovery, bots adding people, or two people joining at the same moment through different links. Newt never guesses.
* The vanity link is its own source, not anybody's invite.
* Rejoins are spotted from Newt's own records. Somebody who left before Newt was added counts as new.
* Accounts the [join gate](/moderation/join-gate) turns away don't count.
* Temporary invites don't give their role, since a role would keep those members for good.
* Joins Newt recorded before 6 October 2026 count too.

**Permission:** `/invites show`, `list`, `leaderboard` and `codes` are for everyone. `bonus`, `reset`, `label` and the **Invites** tab need Manage Server.
