# Troubleshooting

> Fixes for the most common problems.

  <Accordion title="A command is missing from Discord" icon="magnifying-glass">
    Fully quit Discord and reopen it. It caches the command list. On desktop, quit from the tray or dock, not just the window.

    If it's still missing, an admin may have switched it off on the dashboard's **Commands** tab.

  <Accordion title="A mod command says I'm not allowed" icon="ban">
    Moderation commands ignore Discord permissions. An admin has to allow your role on the dashboard's **Permissions** tab. [How](/permissions#give-your-mods-access)

  <Accordion title="Newt can't act on a member or give a role" icon="arrow-up">
    Newt's role is too low. In **Server Settings → Roles**, drag Newt above the member's top role, or above the role it's giving out. Nobody can act on the server owner.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Nothing happens when someone joins" icon="door-open">
    Welcome messages are off until you set one. Run `/welcome show` to see what's saved. With a rules screen, the welcome waits until they accept.

  <Accordion title="Autorole isn't giving roles" icon="user-plus">
    Run `/autorole list`. It flags any role Newt can't give, which is almost always the role order. Check it isn't paused with `/autorole off`.

  <Accordion title="Deleted files aren't in the media log" icon="image">
    Run `/logging status`. Usual causes: Newt can't post or attach files in the log channel, the file was over 8 MB, or it was posted more than 12 hours before it was deleted or before Newt last restarted.

  <Accordion title="The log says the deleter is unknown" icon="user-secret">
    Either Newt is missing **View Audit Log**, or the person deleted their own message. Discord doesn't record self-deletes.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="/forcesurvey found nobody to remind" icon="star">
    It looks for people who joined exactly 8 days ago. Use `days:0` to test on today's joiners.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The bump reminder doesn't ping" icon="bell">
    Turn on **Allow anyone to @mention this role** in the role's settings.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="A counter didn't appear" icon="hashtag">
    Newt needs **Manage Channels**. The dashboard's **Counters** tab shows the reason next to any counter that failed. Failed counters are retried by themselves.

  <Accordion title="A dashboard change hasn't worked" icon="gauge">
    Wait 10 seconds. Newt checks for dashboard changes every 10 seconds.
