# Member Ratings and Retention Analytics for Servers

> Collect 1–10 satisfaction scores from new members with automated survey reminders, then track how many stick around over time with retention reports.

Ratings and retention is Newt's headline feature. About a week after someone joins your server, Newt automatically sends them a reminder to rate their experience on a scale of 1 to 10. You get a live dashboard of satisfaction scores, a breakdown of happy versus unhappy members, and a retention report showing how many new joiners actually stick around. The survey and automated reminders are a Premium feature; the `/retention` command and the `/discovery` checker are free for everyone.

## Setting it up

    Go to the channel where you want the survey to live and run `/setchannel`, or pick the channel from the **Ratings** tab on the dashboard. Either way, Newt immediately posts a message with buttons numbered 1 through 10. That channel is now both your survey and your reminder destination.

    That's the whole setup. From this point on, everyone who joins receives a hidden role marking their arrival day. About a week later, their joining group gets a single ping pointing them back to the survey. No further configuration is needed.

## Worth knowing

**Reminders clean up after themselves.** The reminder message deletes itself two seconds after it sends, so members see it as a notification without leaving clutter in the channel. If you blink you will miss it. Run `/logging reminders` to record every reminder to a dedicated log channel so you always have a paper trail.

**Each member is reminded exactly once.** Pinging the same people every week would drive away the members you are trying to keep, so Newt sends one reminder per member and moves on.

**Scores are one per member.** If a member taps a second number, it replaces their previous answer rather than counting twice. Your average always reflects one genuine score per person.

**`/discovery` checks your server against Discord's Discovery criteria.** It checks whether Community is enabled, whether you have a rules channel and a moderator updates channel, whether media scanning is on, whether two-factor authentication is required for moderators, and whether your member count and server age meet the bar. The output tells you exactly what is blocking eligibility and what is only worth tidying up.

**Two criteria are invisible to every bot, including Newt.** Discord does not expose the visitor-to-talker ratio or the next-week return rate to any bot. Those two signals carry a lot of weight in the algorithm. You can find them under **Server Settings → Server Insights**. The retention figure Newt shows in `/discovery` is its own measurement of a similar concept, and the output labels it as such so there is no confusion with Discord's own number.

**Discord has the final say.** Discovery criteria change over time, so treat the `/discovery` output as a useful checklist rather than a guarantee of eligibility.
