# Run Discord Giveaways with Automatic Winner Selection

> Start a timed giveaway with an Enter button and Newt draws random winners automatically when time runs out — rerollable for 60 days.

Giveaways on Newt are straightforward: you set a prize and a duration, members enter with a button click, and when the timer runs out Newt draws winners at random and pings them in the channel. No manual counting, no screenshots, no disputes. If a winner doesn't respond, reroll in seconds.

## Setting it up

Run `/giveaway start <prize> <duration>` in the channel you want the giveaway to appear in. Write the duration in plain terms — `2h` for two hours, `3d` for three days. Each giveaway can run anywhere from 1 minute to 30 days. Alternatively, create a giveaway from the **Giveaways** tab on the dashboard.

Optionally, add:

* `winners` — how many people win (default is 1)
* `channel` — post it somewhere other than the current channel
* `role` — require members to have a specific role to enter

## Worth knowing

**Entering is double-click safe.** Members click **Enter** to join. Clicking again shows a **Leave** button, so accidentally double-tapping never costs someone their entry.

**The Entries button is private.** Anyone can press it to see the current entrant list, but the answer is shown only to them — the channel stays clean.

**Winners must still be in the server.** Newt only draws from members who are present when the giveaway ends. If someone entered and then left, they're not eligible. If fewer people entered than the number of winners you set, everyone who entered wins.

**Configure global giveaway options on the dashboard.** You can set a role for Newt to ping whenever a new giveaway starts, and opt in to having winners notified by DM when they're drawn.

**Running limits.** Up to 25 giveaways can run at the same time, and each can last anywhere from 1 minute to 30 days. Once a giveaway ends, you can reroll it for up to 60 days — useful if a winner doesn't claim their prize.

**Permission defaults.** Starting, ending, cancelling, and rerolling giveaways all require **Manage Server** by default. You can change who is allowed on the **Permissions** tab of the dashboard.
