# Newt Coins and the Newt Market: Virtual Economy Guide

> A server-wide virtual economy: earn coins through chat and daily streaks, pay members, and trade shares in eight fictional companies updated hourly.

Newt comes with a virtual economy that spans every server the bot is in. Members earn coins by chatting and claiming daily rewards, spend them on shares in eight made-up companies on the Newt Market, and pay each other in a live channel feed of trades and whale alerts. None of it has real-world value — it's purely for fun and keeps people coming back each day to check prices and claim their streak bonus.

## How coins work

**Everyone shares one wallet.** A member's coin balance and share portfolio are the same on every server Newt is in. The first time someone uses a coin command, their wallet opens with a starting balance of 1,000 coins.

**Earn coins two ways:**

* **`/daily`** — Claims your free coins for the day: 100 base coins, plus 25 extra for each consecutive day in your streak, up to a maximum of 250 extra per day. Hit day 7 and collect a 500-coin bonus on top. Miss a day and the streak resets to zero.
* **Chatting** — Members automatically earn 5 coins per minute while they're active in the server.

## The Newt Market

Eight fictional companies trade on the Newt Market, with prices updating every hour. Most companies move in small, predictable increments — they're the safer holds. Newt Inc. is the volatile one: it swings hard in both directions and can make or lose you a fortune overnight. Occasional news events hit individual companies and show up in `/stocks`.

Every trade is posted publicly in the channel where you ran it. Buys include a **Copy trade** button so others can mirror your move in one click. Any single trade worth 25,000 coins or more triggers a whale alert, calling out the big move for everyone to see.

**Trading costs:**

* **1% fee** on every buy or sell
* **5% tax** on payments sent to other members
* **Payments cap at 10,000 coins per day** — both accounts must also be at least 30 days old to send or receive, which prevents brand-new accounts from being used to farm coins

**Coins are closed-loop.** Nobody can create coins, buy them with real money, or cash them out. Not even server admins. They exist purely inside the game.

## Turning it off

If you'd rather not have the economy running in your server, go to the dashboard's **Commands** page and turn off the **Newt Market** category. This disables all economy commands and also stops members earning coins through chatting in your server.
