# Suggestions

> Members suggest ideas and vote on them. Staff approve or deny them.

    Switch on **Turn on suggestions** and pick the channel Newt posts them in. Newt needs **View Channel**, **Send Messages** and **Embed Links** there.

* **title:** up to 100 characters.
* **suggestion:** up to 2,000 characters.

Newt posts it in the suggestion channel with its number, who sent it, its status (**Pending**) and two vote buttons. Each member can send one every 30 seconds.

Press 👍 or 👎 under a suggestion. Everyone gets one vote. Press the other button to change it. Press the same one again to take it back.

## <Icon icon="gavel" size={24} /> Decide

Each command edits the suggestion where it is. The title, idea, author and votes stay, with the new status, who set it and their reason.

`suggestion` is its number. Start typing and Newt lists the latest ones.

## <Icon icon="gauge" size={24} /> Dashboard settings

On the **Suggestions** tab:

* **Channel** where suggestions are posted.
* **DM members when staff decide on their suggestion.** On until you switch it off.
* **Latest suggestions:** the newest 25, with their status, votes and a link.

## <Icon icon="circle-info" size={24} /> Good to know

* Once voting closes, the buttons stay with the final count, greyed out.
* A decision can change later. Run another of the commands. Under review opens voting again.
* If a suggestion's message was deleted, a decision still saves its status.
* A reason can be up to 500 characters.
* Numbers start at #1 in each server.

**Permission:** Everyone can suggest and vote. Deciding needs Manage Server, or a role given it on the [Advanced Permissions](/permissions#advanced-permissions) tab.
