# Custom commands

> Your server's own !commands, made on the dashboard.

    On the [dashboard](https://newt.bot/servers), pick your server and open **Custom commands**.

    The name is what people type after `!`. Name it `rules` and people type `!rules`.

    Reply with a message, DM the person, give a role, take a role away, or a reply and a role together.

* Write several lines and Newt picks one at random. Good for a `!8ball` of your own.
* `{user}` pings whoever typed it. `{server}` is the server name.
* The reply can go where it was typed, to a channel you pick, or by DM.
* `@everyone` in a reply never pings.

## <Icon icon="sliders" size={24} /> Advanced options

Open **Advanced: who, where, cooldown** on a command:

* **Who can use it:** tick roles. Nothing ticked means everyone.
* **Where it works:** tick channels. Nothing ticked means everywhere.
* **Cooldown:** per channel, per person, or for the whole server.
* **Delete the message that triggered it.** Newt needs Manage Messages for this.

* Roles with dangerous permissions, roles above Newt and bot-managed roles can't be given by a command.
* When the reply goes elsewhere, or there's no reply, Newt adds a ✅ to the trigger message.
* Each command fires at most once every 3 seconds per channel, whatever the cooldown.
* Up to 10 commands, or 30 with [Premium](/help/premium).

**Permission:** Everyone can use them unless you pick roles. Making them needs dashboard access (Manage Server).
